Powertrain upgrade for my Avenger
My car is a 1995 Avenger 2.5/A604. I can't imagine why Chrysler hobbled the small but willing V6 and Eclipse handling with such a slug if a transaxle and didn't think its good looks deserving of a manual. The Stratus was, apologies to the readers, a step backwards in styling, as was the second Scirocco from the first Giugaro design, but it got an able powertrain that has tempted me to forego the Venge in its behalf. But I'd prefer to upgrade mine and maybe go further.

I am considering upgrading to a Montero/Gallant/Eclipse 3.8 liter. I don't need the most powerful, because it is the additional 1.3 liters of torque that I am after, so even the 215 hp version would be a big improvement. Rather than attempt to engineer a manual, I've thought instead of substituting an A670 with aftermarket upgrades to either manually select each gear as Donovan does with his 4 cylinder drag cars or just get crisper shifts from an already sturdy design.

I'd like some advice and opinion about doing this. The one thing I have heard to be a potential problem is the crankshaft sensor.

Not sure about the trans, and yes the crank sensor is the main issue I've heard of. motor mounts might be slightly different out of a truck but can be changed out.
